20's fashion
20's fashion?
Main thing in history of the time, the Flappers. That's right, the flappers were the BIG thing happening right then during this period. It consisted of really short hair, flat chests, average shapeless shift dresses, putting makeup in public, D-A-N-C-I-N-G, and smoking. The years of 1920-1924, the skirts were above the calves and a bit stylish. There were these hats called 'cloche hats' that were only worn by women who had a short hair. It was only worn to say that you HAVE short hair. These hats also effected posture and the way that women acted in public. In the 1920's, women also wore fur collared coats and or fur shawls. Apparently, furs were also very big during the time. The ladies didn't even walk to the powder room to put makeup on; instead the ladies carried compact purses and applied to makeup right there and then. The shoes of the time were the Mary Jane ankle strap shoes. The little black dress was also made in this time as well. The little black dress is an iconic piece of clothing because of Audrey Hepburn wearing the dress in the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's". This movie was made in 1961.
SO, basically, the 20's fashion was a big turn-over for the women who would be stuck at home and cleaning and caring for the children. NO. THEY HAD FEET THAT CARRIED THEM TO PARTIES AND FABULOUS ATTIRE THAT MADE A STATEMENT. :)
I do like how the ladies of the century made a new statement of freedom and independence. But, I don't like the clothing as it seems very weird to me. I wouldn't want my hair to be cut that short and wear a fur hat on my head. It might feel like I'm wearing an animal on my head!!!! BUT, the way that the women can just pull out a compact purse and put makeup on in an instant, is something that I see a lot of today's modern women do. I just don't like makeup AT ALL.
Har har, here are some pictures of the 20's clothing stylee:
